Land Rover Range Rover (2013 - 2021) 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography 4d Auto Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
This is my first Rangie after wanting one for decades.
I absolutely love it and it hasn't been the money pit many of my friends predicted.
However....
No other 4.4V8 owner above mentioned the oil dilution, which makes me think that although this is a known issue on the L405 4.4, not everyone suffers from it.
You might say, what's the big deal, well when you get the Service Now light come up after 2,700 miles and the oil alone is around £140 it makes you grumpy - and know i don't drive 10 miles and back to the supermarket every fortnight.
I even had the oil analysed in case the service indictor was wrong, but no, loads of diesel in the oil.
So i either act like a plonker, ignore it and drive for 10,000 before servicing (ruining the engine) or i pay my very good local Landy garage £350 every few months.
The dream was a full electric L460, but as its now longer and more importantly taller, it won't fit in the garage.
So suspect in a couple of years it will be a 21 plate petrol L405 - can't bring myself to buy the (smaller) RR Sport!
How reliable do you find the car?
I had a few minor issues after buying the car, but had full JLR Warranty so all fixed - albeit had to wait weeks for a slot (and this was pre Covid)
Does the car do everything you expected it to do?
This would have been a 5 * all day long, but the 4.4V8 Diesel has a known oil dilution issue, and doing oil changes every 3,500 miles does take the shine off
