Land Rover Range Rover 4.0 SE 4d Auto (1994/L) Owner Review

Value
Very expensive new and those tastes are carried over when it is second-hand.
Costs
See value. Although it was a £45,000 car, when you drive it you can tell... well equipped!

On the road
Driving
Feels like it's going to lean but not too much... very torquey and can pick up its heels on a twisty road. For 2 and a quarter tons... wow!
Performance
Auto box is very lazy and it can feel sluggish, but once it gets above 2500 rpm the V8 picks up and it pulls like a train!

Living with it
Reliability
It's been in the workshop a lot. Not the car's fault, but the Autowarranty company. They used non-LandRover parts - a big no-no.
Image
It's a four wheel drive limo... great road presence and a nice rumbling V8.
Comfort
Top marks for this big cruiser. Cosseting and big. Love the way it rocks gently when you blip the throttle at traffic lights and lowering the suspension at the same time shows those boy racers that 4x4s can do it better.

Security and Service
Security
Never tried it, although it will auto lock after a certain while... which is good?
Service
Didn't use the manufacturer, although they refused to touch it in part-ex once it had been converted to run on gas!

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Leaked a lot and blew head gasket thanks to bodging warranty company!
Other
I am selling the car because it was in for a repair and subsequently bodged by non-Landrover mechanics. The car is running great after I had to pay another garage to sort out the problem... the lesson: take it to someone who knows Range Rovers!
