Should you buy one?

The Leapmotor T03 is a thoroughly decent little car with strong levels of standard equipment, a convincingly usable real-world range and a screamingly attractive price. I mean, a panoramic sunroof for £16,000? That’s unheard of.

To top it off, it also isn’t bad to drive. Yes, the steering is a little wooly and there’s quite a bit of wind noise at motorways speeds, but the chassis does an admirable job of ironing out the sort of rutted, ruined tarmac that plagues Britain’s towns and cities. Most importantly, it’s head and shoulders above the Dacia Spring.

Plus, it’s backed up by the bureaucratic might of Stellantis. That means there’ll be plenty of dealer support, easy access to service centres and an established chain of command to lean on should anything go wrong. It’s a hell of a bargain. I’m sure Leapmotor will sell loads.

What we like

The T03 is spacious enough (for those in the front), good to drive and positively groaning under the weight of its standard equipment. I reckon the real-world will get quite close to its official WLTP estimate when we test it further, too. It’s an awful lot of car for the money.

What we don’t like

The cabin is a little harsh in places, which is to be expected for the price. The seats also aren’t that supportive – and you’ll know about it after a long journey. Finally, the lane assist tech can be annoying and I would have liked some more physical buttons on the dash. Or at least a simpler infotainment menu design.
