Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 23 - 26 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

LS400 undercuts the German manufacturers considerably and is cheaper to run and maintain – though it’s not the epitome of frugality – while parts are expensive but rarely needed. Overall, LS400 is better value than GS300 and is a great alternative to a 7-Series, A8 or S-Class; if you’re not after the ultimate driving experience or your pockets are not deep enough to afford it.

Although regular servicing is vital, the Japanese-built Lexus is extremely dependable and rarely goes wrong. It doesn’t feel as solid as the A8, but the build quality is superb and there is very little else available within this price bracket that is so dependable and smart.
