We love the seats and there’s a good amount of adjustability engineered into the car, so it’s easy to find your perfect driving position.

Because of the fairly high shoulder line and driving position you do feel as though you’re in a commanding positon,. It feels safe and inspires confidence, much like the top-notch build quality.

In front of the driver you’ve got a huge amount of information on offer. Details about fuel economy, hybrid performance, trip information, multimedia settings and the ilk are all available through menus on the clear and sophisticated-looking dashboard arrangement.

Then there’s the screen, which shows yet more information about the car and Lexus has done away with the ‘pillow’ controller for the infotainment system. It’s been replaced with what the firm calls its Remote Touchpad, and functions via fingertip inputs on a smooth pad. You push down to select, and the pad will vibrate when hovering over the various features to avoid over-shooting your intended icon – a common problem with the old system.

An option we’d consider is the head-up display, which projects driving parameters such as speed, sat-nav direction or hybrid operation onto the windscreen. It’s clever tech, and at no point intrudes on your view of the road. It’s fun to see just how frugally you can drive.

The most impressive thing by far about Lexus NX comfort levels is the sheer lack of noise in the cabin. It’s a serene environment which lends itself to relaxed, hassle-free motoring. It isn’t just the lack of engine noise thanks to the hybrid powertrain, but the excellent insulation from wind and road noise too.

Furthermore, it’s a modern cabin design retaining the class you expect from cars at this price. It really is a luxurious place to be.

The ultra-rigid body coupled with low-profile tyres means some versions can feel a tiny bit choppy on rougher road surfaces, but we’re nit-picking here. The over-riding impression is one of a very comfortable car indeed.

Optional stereo will please audiophiles
