Maserati Coupe (2001 - 2006) GT 2d Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
I got a good deal on this car having only paid £8k in the knowledge that although it was mechanically well maintained the bodywork required attention. Unfortunately I didn't factor in the cost of rectifying such issues as it's unclear on my car whether the flaking lacquer is factory paint. Having spent £5k making the car somewhat presentable, if I had my time over I'd probably budget nearer £15-17k and buy a better example to begin with. However I'd still stick with the manual gearbox despite its flaws..
In this price bracket there aren't many manual 'head turning' alternatives worth considering. Perhaps when I replace the car I will switch to something like a VX220 as I don't fancy an Audi or TVR V8.
How reliable do you find the car?
In my short time of ownership I've noticed a few electrical gremilins e.g. rear lights not coming on when in reverse, having to turn the AC on and off for it to kick in but I put this down to low battery charge as it's purely a weekend car. Also the headlining is sagging (a common issue) and I've been quoted £650 to replace although I believe this is a relatively easy DIY job.
Does the car do everything you expected it to do?
As my first venture into exotic car ownership on a budget, the engine note (with an x-pipe fitted) is enough reason alone to buy one. I own the more desirable (depending who you ask) manual, which although cheaper to maintain in the long run probably isn't as fun as the Cambiocorsa as it feels more like a truck gearbox paired with a motorbike engine and several months on I can change nowehere near as quickly as in any other car I've owned.
