Maserati GranTurismo Folgore verdict
Should you buy one?
The GranTurismo Folgore represents an interesting addition to the GT segment, and is important as the first proper electric model in this class. It’s got the performance, comfort and handling prowess required for a GT car, and looks extremely glamorous from every angle.
It’s a special car to look at, drive and be in, and just so happens to be electric. If you can think you can live without the mighty engine, it represents an interesting proposition.
What we like
We love that the GranTurismo still feels special, both to look and drive. It’s glamorous inside and out, with a broad range of talents from comfort through to sportiness. Its performance is ballistic and the battery and charging technology are seriously impressive. Maserati’s engineers deserve high praise for fitting it around the same architecture as the petrol car.
What we don’t like
The interior quality does not feel special enough for a car of this price, with quality concerns around the general build and touchscreen, which was frustrating to use on our test. The Folgore’s electric range might not provide the necessary miles needed for a ‘true’ GT car, and the reduced boot puts it at a disadvantage. It will always be a tough sell compared to the far cheaper petrol GranTurismo, too, for as long as the two cars are sold alongside each other.
