  • Summary

    4 out of 5 4.0

What does this car say about you?

It shows that I am aware that certain people (badge snobs and car ageists) won't like it/will laugh, but it shows to true car enthusiasts that I know and appreciate a good car.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

People younger than me (less than 23) did not like it, others around my age don't mind it, but people that are a little older than me (40+) seem to like it as it has character.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Possibly not as I would prefer something a little newer and a bit more comfortable, however it was the best car I have owned so far.

What are you likely to buy next?

Something of the same engine size, but a little newer and bigger, like a 1.6 Primera, a 1.6 Carina, a 1.8 Avensis, a 1.5 Almera or a 1.4 Rover 45 (preferably the first three as they are reliable, economical big Japanese cars).

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £0

When did you buy the car?

    April 2013

Did you get a good deal and why?

It was a great deal because the car came with tax, MoT and a whole load of extras that all worked, plus it was free.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Was swapped for free with my previous car with was an MoT failure/scrap.

    What was the dealer like?

    He was polite and calm.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

Incredibly responsive for an old 1.6, its aerodynamic shape is not only good on the move, but with careful driving, 40mpg can be achieved. Although the driving pace was decent, I still adored the handling as it fully gripped the road no matter what corner you threw it into.

    What's it like to park?

For a small family car, it is surprisingly easy as the wheelbase is no longer than a modern day MK2 Dacia Sandero, yet has wonderful visibility and easy manoeuvering due to its power steering. However the sleek, aerodynamic wing mirrors are too small, and really do not help.

  • Living with it

    4 out of 5 4.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Since I have owned it, the driver's electric window struggles to close, the front left indicator bulb had blown and one of the rear reversing bulbs has blown. Other than that it is incredibly reliable for a 22-year old motor.

What's most practical about your car?

Coupe body maximises boot loading space, having five doors with central locking helps, but for a car of this age, the power steering is very handy.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Well considering that the car is 22 years old, all of the extras STILL work. Therefore I like the pop up headlights, power steering, central locking, electric windows, electric mirrors, and its typical 1980's green interior lights. However my favourite gadget (by far) had to be the electric sunroof.
