Mazda 323 Fastback 1.8i Executive 5d (1998/R) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
A lot of car for money, should hold its value too.
Costs
Good fuel economy on run, not so good round town.
-
On the road
Driving
More road and wind noise than more modern cars. Engine smooth and refined. Good handling.
Performance
Engine lacks torque low down, needs working hard to get best out of it. 2nd and 3rd gear ratio's are too long. Good motorway cruiser.

Living with it
Reliability
No problems with engine. Air con doesn't work, leaks water into cabin when it rains - v. annoying!
Image
Nice shape, much better than equivalent Ford or Vauxhall.
Comfort
Nice supportive seats. I found the pedals not quite to my liking, accelerator pedal could do with being further back.

Security and Service
Security
Factory immobiliser. Doesn't seem as sturdy as more modern cars.
Service
Haven't had to use them, been totally reliable.
