Mazda MPV Estate (1999-2004) engines, drive and performance

(change model)
Choice of a 2.3 petrol and a 2.0 turbo-diesel. The petrol engine is quite rough and needs to be worked hard to glean performance. The diesel is a robust and reasonably quiet unit and the better choice.
The ride is fine on motorways, but becomes crashy on rough surfaces. Too much bodyroll, steering lacks feel and it could do with more grip. Gearbox feels stiff and changes are jerky.
