Mazda MX-3 1.6i 3d Auto (1991/J) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Better value than other coupes at price.
Costs
Averages 26mpg, Parts not cheap.
-
On the road
Driving
Excellent grip and in wet with 205/40/17 tyres, not so good with standard 185 width tyres in wet.
Performance
Import Autozam AZ-3 version 1498cc DOHC 16 valve engine with 120bhp and manual gearbox. No supercar but impressive performance for a naturally aspirated 1.5L engine. Pulls well at higher revs.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Immaculate bodywork and interior for 13 year old car. A few minor problems (see problems).
Image
Car built ahead of its time still looks very fresh and a lot newer than it actually is, also not a common car which is good.
Comfort
Very comfortable up front but very cramped claustrophobic rear. A.C as standard.
-
Security and Service
Security
On imports no alarm or immobiliser as standard mine has them fitted as most imports also have aftermarket security.
Service
Long wait for parts.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Parts replaced due to failure coolant temperature sensor, thermostat, burst coolant hose and leaking waterpump which involved a cambelt change as belt had to be removed.
