Mazda MX-5 SkyActiv-G 184ps GT Sport Nav+ 2d Owner Review

In their own words
The most fun car I've ever owned. The 2.0 litre engine now makes between 181-184bhp depending on which website you believe and that's more than enough for some pretty brisk motoring and fun. The manual gearbox is probably the nicest I've ever used, short throws that click rather than crunch into place. With the roof down, low speeds on back roads feel like you're zipping along, so you can have fun without risking your licence. From the moment you settle down in the comfortable leather seats (with the best heaters I've ever used) it feels special. You look out over a long bonnet with raised wings that remind me of my old MG BGT. The engine sounds nice and purposeful when it fires up, which it always does with an automatic throttle blip to over 2000 revs before it settles down. I'd like a bit more exhaust burble but it's fine and never sounds harsh. The handling is sublime and really improves your driving, as you feel connected to the road. The infotainment system is good and I love the apple CarPlay. The electronic safety options are good but I'd happily have a cheaper model with less kit next time round. The boot is deeper than I expected but it's no load lugger and although it's enough for a weekly shop or a weeks holiday luggage you might not be able to bring back much duty free. This car though is more about driving for the pure pleasure of it, rather than practicalities. I can't remember the last time I just went out for a drive for the fun of it. Probably with my old Alfa or MG over 20 years ago. People must think I'm mad as I seem to have a permanent grin whenever I drive it. Nearly always with the roof down because hey if it's not raining why not, Try one if you get the chance you'll love it.
