Mazda Premacy 1.8 GSi 5d (2000/W) Owner Review

Economy
Value
All Mazda's in my view represent superb value for money given the exceptional build quality, this is because they depreciate so steeply.
Costs
Fuel economy is average as are other parts costs. A rear light (a huge vertical unit) is fairly pricey.

Driving
The Premacy is quite nice to drive with more than adequate performance/ roadholding. The steering is very responsive, brakes good, but gear change is notchy at times
Performance
If servicing is regularly done by dealers, the performance is good. Mazda quote a 112mph top speed, but 118mph is more like it. When cold, clutch judder can be a problem meaning driving gingerly.

Living with it
Reliability
It's a Mazda, need I say more. However clutch and gearbox though typically robust can be annoying to use at times.
Image
In my view the only models that look cool are cars with Mazda bodykits, like ours. Would look even better being lower to the ground as the stance is quite high. Image is so so.
Comfort
Rear is very comfortable, but front leg room disappoints. All of this, like other Mazda's is spoilt by excessive wind/ road noise. Standard low profile tyres mean a raw, but acceptable ride and more noise! If it was quieter, i'd rate it 5/5

Security and Service
Security
The only thing it lacks are etched windows and an alarm that sounds if glass is broken (interior movement), but it has everything else.
Service
Typically average

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Always reliable, but can sound gruff
Other
Clutch replaced twice under warranty due to judder when cold. Traction control can cut in at the wrong time meaning hesitant acceleration (though this could me my driving)! I love the Premacy so much though, we sold it as it was too big (now have 323F!)
