Value
Pre registered with delivery mileage for £9.5k with CD player and metallic paint thrown in.
Costs
Servicing costs for the first year (two services) 18k miles came to £400. Does little more than 35 miles to the gallon (1 third motorway driving two thirds school run and local shopping).

On the road
Driving
Quite noisy on the motorway but fine in town. Steering is light making driving & parking a pleasure. Soaks up all but the larger pot holes. Leans excessively around tight bends but never loses grip. Excellent visibility all round.
Performance
The 1.8 engine is quite lively with two adults and two children on board. Don't pull out of a T junction heavy footed with the traction control switched on. If you do you the engine cuts power to the wheels just as your half way out, very disconcerting.

Living with it
Reliability
No problems so far, not even a rattle. All seems very solid. But it's only a year old.
Image
If you see just one other a week that's it. I think it's a little known gem. Mazda cars of old looked good then they became frankly dull but they are back on track with the Mazda 3, 5 & 6. Not many are more reliable.
Comfort
Front seats are very supportive and good on long journeys. All controls have a quality feel. Huge leg room in the back. Not enough cubbies. Rear seats are far too narrow though (seat belt anchors dig in and our standard child seat doesn't fit very well).

Security and Service
Security
Immobilizer and alarmed. Pull out roller cargo cover keeps valuables hidden. lockable glove box. 4 air bags (front & side), traction control, ABS & discs all round.
Service
Customer service from the local Mazda dealer is amazing. Efficient, polite, no waiting in long queues or hanging on the phone and they always smile.
