In their own words

If you don't mind changing your oil every 3k miles, and you can stomach 20mpg, the Mazda RX8 is the best value car in the UK. Every time I look at prices, I'm staggered nobody else has cottoned on to how cheap they are relative to anything similar. If you need more that 2 seats, but you still enjoy attacking a B road, the RX8 is better than anything south of a Lotus Evora. The interior is at least on par with the German fare of the period, and the ride lacks the harshness of most other sports cars, giving a more premium feel to the whole experience.

The RX8 has a bad reputation for reliability, but the issues are well known to the community and are now easy to tackle. If your engine doesn't go at least 100k miles between rebuilds today, it's because you're an idiot. The major thing to watch for is rust, and the aforementioned idiocy, but if you get a decent example and you can afford the petrol, you will never want to sell it. How reliable do you find the car?

When I bought it, it was running on one rotor after 93k miles. Since having the engine rebuilt (£1750, bargain!) it has been largely hassle free. The occasional part has needed replacing, but she's never left me stranded or failed to start, even with half an engine out of action!

Does the car do everything you expected it to do?

The RX8 has proven surprisingly practical and very dependable. I bought it as a young lad because it was cheap, fast and rotaries are cool, and it still passes the immature tests with flying colours. On top of that, it's not a bad GT car. It's quite comfy, has a decent interior and stereo, and it has been a wonderful way to travel 50k miles.
