Mazda Tribute (2001-)
  • Economy

    Value

    5 out of 5 5.0

Everything but the kitchen sink - however you could run a fridge and kettle on the spare 12v outlets that are included. Very high spec indeed.

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

A bit thirsty, but insurance costs very reasonable and most in this category are not frugal on fuel. No experience of servicing costs yet, but the menu prices seem reasonable.

  • On the road

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

A good drive on motorway and lanes though you can't push it too hard through bends.

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

The 2-litre version is not as pokey as the 3, but it's no snail either.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    5 out of 5 5.0

So far, so good and it does inspire confidence.

Whilst it doesn't have the pedigree of others, it has turned heads so where the bland styling comments come from are beyond me. I find it more stylish than the Honda CRV.

    Comfort

    5 out of 5 5.0

Seats and driving position extremely comfy - loads of space for passengers and a huge boot area.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    5 out of 5 5.0

Alarm, immobiliser, deadlocks, coded CD - looks pretty thorough to me and not being trendy may make it less of a target.

    Service

    4 out of 5 4.0

Again, so far so good. Not had Mazda before, but they have a good reputation.
