Mazda Xedos 9 2.5i V6 4d Auto (1998/R) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Loads of extras, cheap to buy.
Costs
18 mpg if I take it easy, loads of expensive repairs.
-
On the road
Driving
Changes gear at the wrong time, no power under 5,000rpm, noisy, rattly.
Performance
Fast if you really kick the arse out of it, but then it struggles with corners and the traction control gets in the way.
-
Living with it
Reliability
The worst car I've owned, endless faults, been on the back of a breakdown truck 3 times in 6 months.
Image
Gets loads of compliments and does look good.
Comfort
Noisier than you'd expect from a car this size, not much rear leg room, lowered suspension ruins ride and doesn't seem to do much to improve handling.
-
Security and Service
Security
Standard alarm fob broken, £180 to replace, alarm used to trigger off key, but just stopped one day.
Service
Mazda can't actually fix the car because their mechanics aren't trained too.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Heater hose split, mis fires when cold, timing belt slips at random so both engine banks run at different times and the car has no power - seemingly this just happens, nothing much can be done about it
Other
Wheel Bearing needs replaced, cost £168 just for the part! Front leading arm needed replaced £135 for the part. All the suspension components seem to rattle. Build quality seems low, for a car with such a good reputation.
