Mercedes-Benz A-Class A190 Avantgarde 5d ACS (99) (1999/V) Owner Review

-
Economy
Value
Over priced for what it is and depreciation is high, despite dealer assurances.
Costs
Ridiculous main dealer servicing costs. Parts expensive. Odd size tyres wear out quickly.
-
On the road
Driving
Good engine, but it's no GTi. Handling not that brilliant, in spite of or because of the stability control?
Performance
Ok on the straight.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Dubious build quality; suspension component failures a routine event. Just waiting for something else to break.
Image
It's got the badge, but is that enough?
Comfort
Despite extremely harsh suspension, it's a reasonable long trip car.
-
Security and Service
Security
Alarm has a habit of activating a minute or so after you pull off. Doesn't do anything for the image!
Service
On the surface efficient, but not that eager to sort problems, even if they appear to be inherent faults. Car too cheap to warrant first class service?
