Mercedes-Benz A-Class (2013 - 2018) A180d SE Executive 5d Auto Owner Review

In their own words
After huge problems with a 1.2 TSI DSG from VW, I decided to get a Jahreswagen from Mercedes Benz with 4.000 miles on the odometer. It is less roomy than a Golf, but it doesn’t break down all the time. Handling is good, especially when the shocks needed replacement at 105.000 km and I got a set of standard Sachs shocks fitted. Ride is firm but you can feel the road on the steering wheel. Brakes are good too, even though the pads tend to wear quickly. The 7 speed automatic transmission is brilliant and it saves the day because the engine is not too strong. I have driven the same car with a manual transmission and it was a total disappointment. With the auto, the engine works on its maximum torque range and moves the car adequately. Compared to the brand new Toyota Corolla 1.8 hybrid I am driving at work, the old A class drives much better, is slightly less costly on fuel, and feels a much better built car. I would easily recommend a slightly used W176 A class with the small Renault engine and the automatic transmission over any brand new car in this category. Their prices are very reasonable after the introduction of the newer model.
How reliable do you find the car?
The smaller battery for the start - stop system dies every 18 months or so. Maybe the additional electronics I have installed (extra amplifier, dash cam, car alarm, rear camera, parking sensors, third party navigation) are putting an extra load the battery cannot handle.About their car
