Mercedes-Benz C-Class Saloon C230K Sport 4d (1996/N) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Not cheap, but you get what you pay for.
Costs
Find yourself a tame independent Merc specialist and it'll cost less than a Mondeo. Fuel consumption is average.

On the road
Driving
Composed and well mannered. On the motorway it's a docile and comfortable cruiser, but get on the back-roads, squeeze the loud pedal and it turns into a hooligan...
Performance
Put it in 5th at 1500 revs and it has enough torque to stay there all day. But use the gears and keep it above 3500 revs and it pins you to the seat. It's not a sportscar, but you can't get five people in an Elise...

Living with it
Reliability
Faultless - 120,000 miles on the clock, and nothing to report yet. Find yourself a tame independent specialist to look after it and it keeps on going and going and going...
Image
It's a Merc, not a Beemer. Understated and doesn't turn heads.
Comfort
If you want to be wafted along in luxury, choose the Elegance. The 'Sport' suspension is harder, but keeps you in touch with what is going on.

Security and Service
Security
I've still got it! Immobiliser can play up sometimes, but otherwise no problems. Oh, and don't lose the keys - your local cobbler can't get blanks.
Service
No problems. Dealers are helpful but expensive. Independent specialists are easy to find, equally knowledgeable and half the price.
