Mercedes-Benz CE-Class Coupe (1977 - 1996) 300 CE-24 2d Auto Owner Review

I’ve owned this car for 25 years. It’s now 30 years old and is in a fantastic condition. The interior looks like it is about 3 years old and the exterior looks like it just rolled off the production line. Of course I’ve had to spend time and money to keep the car like this, but nothing has been so expensive to fix that would cause me to scrap it. It’s a bit like running the Forth bridge. You do regular small repairs and never allow things to build up. There is no depreciation now, and the prices are going up. The only thing that will send this car to the scrap yard is when MB stop making parts. But almost everything is still available from MB. Today I just got back from a round trip of 455 miles on one tank of petrol averaging just over 30mpg. Not bad for a 3l engine with a 30 year old design. The boot is cavernous. The ride is very smooth. The engine is very peaky, redlining at 7000rpm. 0-60mph today is 7.89 seconds and the 4 speed auto is so smooth you would think it was an electric car. The only big repair was about 15 years ago when the head gasket had to be replaced as it started to leak oil. These days anything made of rubber is beginning to perish, so suspension bushes are all slowly being replaced. I’m sure this car will last another 30 years. I’m not so sure I will still be around to see it , but who knows? The build quality is second to none, but then at the price it was new in ‘91you could have bought two houses. I wouldn’t buy another. There’s not much point as this one will last forever.
