Mercedes-Benz E-Class Saloon 200 E 16V 4d Auto (1993/L) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Lots of over-engineering for little money at this age.
Costs
Pays to shop around for OEM spares. 'MB' boxes and wrappings are very expensive.
-
On the road
Driving
One of the nicest to drive of the 40 cars I have owned.
Performance
Most complain of underpower. I personally think it's quite remarkable for a 2 ltr. In such a heavily built car.
-
Living with it
Reliability
125k and still 'running-in'! Uses no oil. (Fully synth).
Image
Not too 'flashy', but looks the part!
Comfort
One of the best for front passengers, but very tight in the back.
-
Security and Service
Security
Several dealer-fitted alarm systems not too reliable, but mine's ok so far.
Service
Main dealerships not too helpful with older models, technicians don't have in-depth knowledge of the model. Best to use Independent Specialist. (One-third of the labour cost too!)

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
No problems. (Do NOT use 'Beru' plugs!)
Other
Exhaust, but this is normal service item.
