Mercedes-Benz E-Class Saloon 280 E 4d Auto (5) (1993/L) Owner Review

Economy
Value
You will not find a better spec and build quality with such a prestige name for under £4,000.
Costs
Fuel economy could be better, despite a standard and economy setting on the gearbox.

On the road
Driving
One of the smoothest drives I have experienced.
Performance
Even after 10 years, mine still tops 144mph. Acceleration is impressive for its size.

Living with it
Reliability
Engine has been exceptional but I have had to repair the air conditioning and an electric window regulator. Genuine parts are extremely expensive but German & Swedish offer replica parts at a fraction of the cost.
Image
Even now these cars still turn heads. Everyone comments on how nice it is when they get in for the first time. The walnut trim really finishes it off.
Comfort
I have never had any aches even after an 11 hour journey from Bedford to Oban. Cruise control cares for your ankles.

Security and Service
Security
Full closure alarm with immobiliser and remote central locking.
Service
I am not impressed with the dealers. I find them arrogant and unhelpful. They are unwilling to offer free advice and charge extortionate amounts for even minor work. A full dealer service even for my L reg E280 is about £850. Utterly ridiculous.
