Mercedes-Benz E-Class Saloon 300 E 4d Auto (1992/J) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Now exceedingly good value for the quality, longevity and reliability. A good one can be bought for two-thousand pounds or lees!
Costs
MB parts and servicing expensive. MB specialists not so. Although genuine parts are expensive, they are better quality than pattern equivalents, and longer lasting. Parts not often needed however.

On the road
Driving
Smooth, silent, competent. old-school MB solidity is adictive! My 300E had 100K on the clock when sold but felt fresh. A very capable driver's car.
Performance
Astonishingly fast when pushed, but always smooth, hushed and very refined. The twelve valve three litre straight six is a superb motor.

Living with it
Reliability
First rate. Total reliability. Only ever had to replace front road springs and ball joints due to rectched speed humps. All other replacement items purchased were serviceable parts tyres, exhausts etc.
Image
MB cars have the best image on the roads of Britain in my opinion. I've owned many different Mercedes models and i'll always stick with them. (Have a W201 model currently) I love the Zebrano wood interior trim Mercedes are renowned for!
Comfort
Leather seats offer fine comfort, but a little slippery for fast cornering. First class suspension responsible for superb ride comfort.

Security and Service
Security
My W124 had MB remote alarm and immobiliser with door and roof closure and ultrasonic movement detection for the interior. Good quality locks too, especially for the early 1990's.
Service
My local MB dealer (Mertrux, Derby) are helpful and curtious.

Problems
Engine
One of Mercedes finest.
Other
The best of the "proper" over engineered Mercedes models. A car for life if well maintained.
