Mercedes-Benz E-Class Saloon (2009-2016) verdict

Should you buy a used Mercedes E-Class W212?
The W212 E-Class has a solid reputation as a reliable used car – and for good reason. While things do go wrong, there are very few catastrophic concerns, and it shouldn’t be too much of a chore to find yourself a nice one. If you’re careful and considerate these make a great second-hand buy.
As ever, solid service history is a must, however, and there are always signs of a car that hasn’t been well cared for – such as mis-matched tyres and poor paintwork. If the interior is past its prime either walk away and find another or factor the condition into the asking price.
Diesel may not be a fashionable fuel these days, but it’s still the top choice in this era of E-Class; the petrols are either too weedy or have a drinking problem. If you’re planning to spend a large amount of money, a professional inspection could be worth the additional investment, just to ensure there are no hidden surprises. But generally, a W212 should see you right.
