Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV verdict

It’s hard to recommend, unless you need to have seven seats in your luxury electric SUV. Otherwise, the BMW iX is the one to have if you want a stand-out, high-price, high-quality electric car. The EQS is still close to the cutting edge of the current state of battery electric vehicle technology and offers an impressive range and overall refinement.

Yes, it looks and feels much like a taller and heavier EQS Saloon, but that’s not entirely a bad thing given how accomplished that is at covering miles. As with that car, the EQS SUV’s interior wows, but there are cheap bits to spoil the overall ambiance – and there’s no escaping the fact this is a super expensive car.

So there you have it: the BMW iX is better to drive and while a Range Rover isn’t yet available as an EV, it is cheaper and a better luxury car if you don’t mind having an engine.

What we like

At speed it really wafts along. You feel wonderfully insulated from the road beneath you. The Hyperscreen is a must for tech heads and the electric range looks to be spot on.

What we don’t like

Even when compared with other top-end electric SUVs, it is expensive. There are concerns with the interior quality and the brakes are inconsistent.
