Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class (2014 - 2020) GLA 200 SE Executive 5d Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
I like the GLA as a model, avoid the Diesels as they're noisy, Petrol models are much quieter. The drive dynamics are well set for a crossover, it corners as expected (if you want tight turning then buy a coupe). Go for the comfort suspension if you don't want a harder ride (plus the raised ride height of 30mm = makes the car more SUV). The performance is also good and the fuel economy is far better than my old Lexus (best Aero Cd in class), the tax is cheaper as well (saved quiet a bit per year from downsizing a 3.0 litre to 1.6 turbo assisted). Boot space is okay for day-to-day (I had a massive boot on my Lexus but never used it that much), it's big enough to fit the dog comfortably for trips to the beach or 8 large bags of shopping (we also bought MB roof bars and a top box for the 2-3 trips a year where we need the extra space). The pano roof is a must, it makes a big difference to have sunlight on summer days plus it keeps the kids happy to be able to look up from their screens some times. The back seat is comfortable and spacious for two adults/teenagers, at a push you can fit three adults as well. Comfort seats for long journeys are better than the sports seats (better suited to man hips). My Lexus had parking sensors so I wanted these for the GLA but the salesman recommended a rear view camera instead (as part of a package). So far after nearly four years of driving there hasn't been a time when I've wished I'd got sensors, the camera is perfect for positioning the back end into parking and tight corners. Another key feature the salesman advised me to get was the blind sport system, the GLA has a big blind area which can hide a small van so the system really keeps you safe if somebody sneaks into the blind spot on either side of your car. Overall the GLA is a good car that suits our family of four (plus one medium sized dog) for city, countryside and beach travels. It's not a big Crossover SUV but it does what you'd expect from a Mercedes, and size isn't always better on a busy road.
How reliable do you find the car?
Issues mainly due to my car being one of the first delivered after the launch, MB quickly resolved the issues and sorted any teething problemsDoes the car do everything you expected it to do?
I had downsized from a bigger Lexus but needed something slightly smaller for city driving and commuting, found the car very agile and adaptive for all usesAbout their car
