Mercedes-Benz M-Class Estate (2012-2015) running costs and reliability

Fuel economy
Mercedes claims that fuel costs have been reduced thanks to much more fuel efficient engines across the range. The ML gets the four-cylinder diesel engine for the first time which reduces emissions to 158g/km of CO2 and nearly hits a claimed 40mpg on average. A claimed best-in-class drag co-efficient of 0.32 (means it is more aerodynamic) also helps to reduce drag, improve fuel consumption and lower emissions.
You don’t buy a big 4x4 to show off your green credentials. However, this version of the ML has the latest engines, which are more fuel efficient and emit fewer emissions than the previous model’s. There is no hybrid version available but this could change yet.
The previous model put to bed the old reliability issues of the very first ML model and so we would expect very few problems with the new version.
