Mercedes-Benz R-Class (2006 - 2012) R350L CDI 5d Auto Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
The only thing not to like is its length in supermarket / multistorey car parks where the spaces are tight and the 'lanes' between parking rows far too narrow to egress in one move unless there is an adjacent space vacant (and that's from a trained professional driver). Otherwise, WOW! I've been absolutely delighted with every one of my 20,000+ miles every year pre-Covid and 12500 last year. It is like sitting in an armchair - and with the adjustment options provided that should apply to anybody - driving a cloud: there is no part of the vehicle or moving it around which feels heavy or clunky, it is responsive and rapid emerging from junctions, and equally so overtaking on the open road whether at 30-60 or 50-80. It's not a sports car but the above applies when not in Sports mode and it can certainly feel like a sports 'tank' when it is engaged ;-) It is spacious in both front and back seats and is the only car I've ever come across where I would happily go on a long journey as an adult in seats 6 and 7: it feels like you have as much room as in the spacious 'middle row'. The boot is very spacious when seats 6/7 are folded down and almost unfillable when the middle row is also folded flat. I've never run a car beyond 105,000 miles before (most to around 100,000) and i can comfortably afford a 3 year old equivalent replacement now, but have neither intention nor expectation of changing before at least 200,000 and perhaps 250,000 (currently 130,000). It's a fabulous vehicle which has way exceeded my expectations and continues to impress.
How reliable do you find the car?
Just one serious issue, involving one expensive part, and a couple of minor issues all within a 12 month period around 90-100,000mls, otherwise completely trouble free motoring, with all the smoothness and comfort expected of a large Merc.Does the car do everything you expected it to do?
As comfortable as any car I've ever had, including several BMW (X5; 5series) and Jags (S-type), and although not as quick as the twin turbo X5 it is much quicker across the range than I expected.About their car
