Should you buy one?

If carrying people and their luggage is a priority, then nothing else on the market manages it in such a plush fashion as the Mercedes-Benz V-Class, and the 2024 update works well to enhance the formula. Does that mean you should buy one? Depends on your priorities.

If you’re just carting family and friends around, we’d take a long, close look at a Volkswagen Multivan before making a decision. That said, there’s no doubting the commanding Mercedes image the V-Class projects, and it’s certainly very roomy and comfortable inside – hence being so popular for executive transport in the private hire sector.

Also counting against the V-Class is the lack of a hybrid powertrain option (something the Multivan does offer, alongside conventional petrol and diesel), which is starting to make it feel old fashioned. But for those who need a spacious, long-distance diesel with lots of space for passengers and luggage, the Mercedes remains a fine choice.

What we like

Plenty of space, generally very plush inside, and easy to drive in spite of its size. Looks smart for something based on a van as well.

What we don’t like

Some cheaper fixtures and fittings in places, which is galling given the price. Conventional diesel engines your only choice (for now). Only one trim level.
