Vaneo is based on A-Class, which achieved a four-star Euro NCAP crash test rating. It has twin front and side airbags, ABS and traction control. Alarm system with interior protection and an immobiliser are standard but its gawky looks are unlikely to appeal to thieves.

The interior is very versatile, with two removable seats in the rear load area. Sixth and seventh seats can be ordered as options. Easy to stow awkward loads, thanks to its tall shape. Option packs such as Snow, Surf and Dog add to practicality.
