MG F 1.8i 2d (1995/M) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Main dealers still want too much, though you can get some bargains privately.
Costs
Cambelt service is very expensive - beware!
-
On the road
Driving
Gearchange is lousy. Handling 'dangerous' above 70mph. Understeers badly in the wet.
Performance
Doesn't feel as quick as it is. Can go fast if you're brave enough!

Living with it
Reliability
Head gasket failures are common on these - beware! Hydralastic suspension can cause problems too. The stress of looming repair bills forced me to sell.
Image
Personally, I love the design. It's got a great stance. As for the people that call them hairdressers cars... I think they just have an identity crisis!
Comfort
Very comfortable compared to my previous MX5. Much nicer interior and the decent sized boot makes all the difference on weekend trips.

Security and Service
Security
Alarm, immobiliser... Never had a problem leaving it anywhere.
Service
Beadles Dartford were very poor. They basically wasn't interested once the car left the forecourt. I've heard the same about many other MGR dealers. That's why I'll never buy MG again.
