MG HS SUV (2019 - 2024) Exclusive 1.5T-GDI DCT auto 5d Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
Purchased the HS simply on price you get a lot of car for your money, however as in all things in life you pay for what you get.
What your get for your money is very well equipped vehicle, interior is nicely appointed and would not look out of place in a premium brand vehicle, like the full length pan roof and factory tints, lots of safety kit as well.
Lots of interior space especially rear legroom, though the boot area isn't as big as you would think, while the seat backs will only fold there's no cleaver sliding or individually split rear seating that might find in more expensive rivals.
I find the heating system pretty poor, especially when demisting on a frosty morning, no heated front screen and takes a lot longer to clear the condensation than any of my previous vehicles even with the aircon on.
Info system is poor, is slow to respond and regularly re-boots or freezes (despite being updated with new software), DAB rubbish due to lack of chips the Dab function is a cheap screen aerial and a dongle with a cable in a usb port, after a yr we are still waiting for the 'fix'.
Vehicle is equipped with various driver aids, however whenever there's even a slight frost most of the systems go of line due to 'sensors not responding' apart from the main beam on function unfortunately the main beam off sensor is offline so while it puts the main beam on automatically it cannot switch them off automatically for oncoming vehicles, had a number of vehicles with similarly equipped and never had an issue with sensors not working in similar weather conditions.
Vehicle has an automatic tailgate, however it has a mind of its own will not always close fully would stop halfway, quarter of the way when closing, would open when driving and once nearly trapped me as it started to close on its own while I was unloading on my own, it'shad a software update though hasn't solved the problem.
It drives well enough, though the dct box is sometimes slow to respond especially changing up through the gears, handling is more than adequate to go to the shops and trundling around though its certainly no drivers car as it doesn't like being pushed to hard.
MPG is pretty dire by today's standards averaging around 32 mpg after 10k miles mainly country A roads, you can get over 40 on a motorway run while its well under 30 mpg in town stop start driving.
To sum if your on a budget and need a medium sized SUV and can live with it's quirks then the HS should prove more than adequate transport.
Personally I wouldn't buy another to many design shortcomings for me making it the most frustrating new car I have owned.
