MG MG5 EV Estate 115kW Exclusive EV 61kWh 5dr Auto Owner Review

In their own words
Second EV so I know what to expect. Car is an estate and boot space is good for two medium sized dogs. Never let us down. Now for the problems. Generally poor IT which has never worked as it should. Things turn on and off at will and there is no consistency. Sat Nav is the worst I have seen in over 20 years of use. Has to be loaded each time you start car which takes for ever to load. To say the touch screen is slow would be a compliment - you can practically hear the cogs grinding. Plenty of information on the screen but it is so small you really cannot see it when you are driving - so it is a dangerous distraction. Speed limit sign flashes at you when you go over - not a bad thing. But it does not recognise a 70mph limit as stated in the owners hand book - so you can turn this off. Unfortunately it randomly turns it self back on for unknow reasons - dealers have no answer. Interior light are very poor so anything ending up in the foot wells is lost till the sun rises. Car is very fast and acceleration can be exhilarating. However the chassis cannot keep up so wheel spins and dodgy handling let it down badly. Has Android Auto which is good. But it drops out all the time. I use my phone in other cars and it never has been a problem. Seating positing for driver is electric but very limited. Does no suit the taller driver like me - should have know this but I thought I would get used to it - but I did not. There is height adjustment but as well as going up this propels you forward so this is a problem even with full steering adjustment. Heating controls are also very fiddly with 2 buttons that cycle the direction of the air but are so small you cannot really see what you are doing when on the move. Car is prone to misting up in wet weather and automatic aircon struggles to keep it under control. Variable intermittent wipers just do not work as they should despite dealers apparently resetting them. There's plenty more. But the main problem is depreciation. This car was over £29k just over 2 years ago and is now valued at less than £12500. That's an eye watering 43% residual value after only 2 years! So a bargain as a used buy but never ever buy new! To sum up - If you want a cheap to run EV with reasonable range then fine. But don't pay much and manage your expectations on the IT front.
