  • Economy

    Value

    3 out of 5 3.0

Although the price was good, the equipment specification by today's standards is pretty tight.

    Costs

    5 out of 5 5.0

1 year service £95. No other costs incurred with general runnin of the car.

  • On the road

    Driving

    5 out of 5 5.0

Handling and grip are the best I have ever experienced in any car I have owned. A must for anyone who likes to drive enthusiastically on B-roads!

    Performance

    5 out of 5 5.0

Performance cannot be faulted for the size of engine; throaty, gutsy, great for overtaking!

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    3 out of 5 3.0

Generally ok, but not confidence-inspiring in the brand. Too many bits of broken plastic or bits dropping off. Parts delay of 7 months once. Paint problems and engine issues which cannot be traced and are described as 'moments'.

    Image

    3 out of 5 3.0

Started off ok, and I think image is ok for rest of MG Range, but I have found the ZR has over the past 18 months become a bit of a boy racer / scally lad type car. Hyped up ZRs and Rover 25 based lookalikes have knocked the image badly.

    Comfort

    3 out of 5 3.0

You dont buy an MG for comfort, as you pay for that with increased handling. But for the normal driver, the comfort levels are poor - thrashy ride, creaking suspension, very tight-fitting sports seats with litte give for the broader built amongst us!

  • Security and Service

    Security

    2 out of 5 2.0

Standard alarm proved useless when car was broken into. The alarm only works by opening doors and bonnet. My car sat for 16 hours before anyone realised it had been broken into. For this type of car, a proper alarm should be standard on all models!

    Service

    2 out of 5 2.0

Appalling service all round and nothing to recommend it. Parts delays of 7 months. Argumentative over every warranty claim, MGR customer service at Longbridge has proved useless and unapologetic. Warranty has neligable value after 1 year.

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

Strange one this - One morning refused to start, then it did, flashing engine lights and smoke belching out of exhuast and engine, along with petrol smell. Dealer found no problem, put it down as the car having a 'moment!'

    Other

Folding rear seat handle and latch broke, 7 month wait for parts. Broken heater control knob, 12 pieces of plastic and rubber have been picked up across the interior and no one knows where they go back to!

    Ownership

Did you buy the car new?

    New

Would you buy the same model again?

    No

Did you buy from the same manufacturer again?

    No
