    Value

    5 out of 5 5.0

Great value! Sporty looks, 17 " alloy wheels, half leather interior, front fog lights, CD player and a highly tuned, 103bhp 1.4ltr 16v twin cam proven 'K' series engine for £9995! Plus low tax and free insurance for one year!

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

Low running costs, drinks petrol when driven hard but around 25 - 30mpg normally. Heard services can be pricey. All in though its costing much less than my old 1.8 Focus Zetec monthly, mainly due to the fuel costs.

  • On the road

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

This is a drivers car so obviously the drive is an acquired taste. But if its your thing then it really is fun! Easiest way to describe it is that its like a go-kart and really does stick to the road like glue. Not in the wet however........

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Considering the size of the engine its pretty quick. Its no Type R or STi but it can test bigger engined cars. 0 - 60mph takes 10secs and it will top out at 115mph, impressive for insurance group 7. A K & N Induction Kit will make it sound like an STi!

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    3 out of 5 3.0

Not MG/R's strongpoint this, but has to be said I have had very few problems with my ZR. Faulty passenger window, small electrical fault and a handle falling off. All fixed under warranty. Build quality not the best but I knew that before purchase.

    Image

    4 out of 5 4.0

Has a boy racer image, but who cares? Are boy racers really that bad? I would say no but I'm only 22, I may be classed as one too! People always want to race you! Especially people in Rovers, like they have a point to prove or something!

    Comfort

    3 out of 5 3.0

You don't buy a car like this for comfort......but having said that, it really isn't as bad as you would think! I find long journeys are fine and seats are really comfortable. Have been told suspension is 'Brutal' in the back on a long journey though.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    4 out of 5 4.0

It has a Thacham Cat 1 alarm and immobiliser, with in-car motion sensors. Seems fine and doesn't go off in storms or in the middle of the night. Obviously you will need a good alarm with a car like this. Desirable to joy riders!

    Service

    2 out of 5 2.0

Very poor. Have to take the car to a garage in another town due to falling out with my local garage.
