Economy
Value
Excellent value for money. What other car are you going to get like the ZR for the price? Fuel economy is good considering the sporty engine. Got from Glasgow to Alton Towers on a tank at 100mph+ nearly 300 miles. Optional extras are pretty steep though.
Costs
Doesn't cost much to run the car. Insurance is acceptable. MPG is good even when driven harder than normal. Parts are a bit on the steep side!

On the road
Driving
Excellent drive depending on what you want from a car, engine is willing and is surprisingly powerful. Even when car is full it doesn't labour too much which is surprising from a small engine. Handling is superb, runs on rails. Not in the wet however…
Performance
For a 1.4 you can't complain. The performance is superb considering. Is not fast by any means but it is quick. Really good mid range power for a small engine. Begs to be driven hard which is great when it's dry but watch it in the wet, it gets twitchy.

Living with it
Reliability
This is my second ZR. The engine in the first blew up after MG couldn't find anything wrong. MG replaced engine but I said I didn't want it back so got a deal on a new one. Flimsy build. Watch the oil level!

Good image when it came out but kinda old looking now. Always get shady Rover 25s trying to race you. Turns heads depending on colour but too common now. Boy racer jokes starting to fly now.
Comfort
Not as uncomfortable as others might make you think. I did a Glasgow to Alton Towers run and it was fine. Passengers said it was fine too. In fact they fell asleep so it cant be that bad! Does have a harder ride than others though. Not to everyones taste.

Seems ok. Haven't had anyone try to nick it yet though. Have noticed the alarm is sensitive though. Goes off if windows are left open as it has a motion sensor. I imagine it will attract scum so beware!
Service
Great untill something goes wrong. You have to push to get any help from them. Not good.

Engine
Engine blew in first one at 12,000 miles. Second one fine so far but I'm paranoid so I check it every week.
Other
Loose connection which meant I had no headlights or dash lights for a few days. Fixed under warranty.
