The V6 needs hard revving, but appeals to the enthusiast. ZS 120 is a warm – rather than a hot – alternative, but a good choice for everyday driving and commuting. Other in the range are adequate and much cheaper to fuel and insure. Low down punch of the TD115 diesel (that’s right, a diesel MG) is good fun on twisty roads.
Expect a hard and bumpy ride, because the MG is set up for backroad fun (go for the Rover 45, if you’re after a decent ride). The stiff suspension makes a backroad blast lots of fun and it’s ultimately rewarding. Steering is superb, brakes good too: nothing like a Rover 45. Top models may be too harsh around town for some tastes.
