MG ZT Saloon (2004-2005) running costs and reliability
Miles per pound (mpp)
Fuel economy
The four cylinder petrol units offer respectable economy, whilst the diesels are positively frugal. But the V6 units start to look a bit on the thirsty side unless extreme restraint is exercised – the V8 even more so. Insurance groups range from 10 to 19. However the biggest cost of ownership is likely to be depreciation which is comparable to a Ford Mondeo.
ZT is quite a polluting model. With an average of 220 g/km CO2 across the line-up, its emissions are a little high for an executive saloon. The range is not very frugal, averaging 33 mpg.
The 75 on which its based was originally engineered by BMW which is good news for the reliability, although to their credit, build quality actually get even better when production moved to Longbridge so reliability should be good.
