GDI offers strong and lively performance – despite the badge it’s a petrol unit, even though it sounds like a diesel at idle! 1.6 is tuned for mid-range torque and economy. The 1.9 turbo-diesel is willing enough and relaxed on the motorway, though it has the feel of an old-school unit.
Crashy ride is jarring over most surfaces and rarely comfortable, while at higher speeds it’s bouncy. Handling isn’t good, with imprecise steering, lots of bodyroll and a notchy gearchange. However, it is easy to drive.
