Mitsubishi FTO FTO 2.0 V6 GPX (197bhp) 2d (2000/V) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Surprisingly cheap to buy, and very good as a daily car.
Costs
Mivec can get thirsty when pushed (usually all the time!) servicing by specialists tends to be expensive, for best results demands high octane fuels (shell optimax etc).
-
On the road
Driving
Handles extremely well, good grip and tight chassis allows for taught moves, a little understeer when pushed, but extremely balanced for a FWD.
Performance
Excellent n/a v6 engine delivers smooth power, needs to be revved to get the best. Wonderful MIVEC system provides thrills, light body, not much tuning potential as engine is already at limit!

Living with it
Reliability
Flawless engine and body, even after lifetime of abuse, still idles quiet, tends to suffer from those common noisy tappets (Mitsubishi short it out!).
Image
Attracts people like flies to dung! Comments include baby aston martin, people try and overtake me just to look at it! Beautiful front, questionable rear but nonetheless still cute!
Comfort
Has stiffened/lowered suspension, very bumpy on normal roads seats are extremely supportive though can drive it all day! On M-way this car shines, v6 delivers refined cruises or ferocious overtaking!

Security and Service
Security
It's like a toy, the body is very weak and locks tend to get un-operative. Investment in top spec alarms is a MUST!
Service
Absolute disgrace, overcharge and underperform. Go to independents.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Outstanding, compact V6 with all the tricks as long as it's serviced shouldn't offer any trouble.
Other
Interior rattles and sweaks, but then again this is easily curable and not sound proofed. Well do you want to hear that mivec scream?
Ownership
Did you buy the car new?
Used
Would you buy the same model again?
Yes
Did you buy from the same manufacturer again?
