There is an upside to the fact that Mitsubishi doesn’t hold the same status as the executive German brands; it should remain unscathed on your driveway for longer, as it is less attractive to potential thieves. The Galant comes with a factory-fitted alarm, central locking and immobiliser – which should be sufficient – but further security may be needed in more vulnerable areas, as the door locks seem a little frail.

Although it has not been officially tested for crash safety in Europe, the Galant is sturdy enough to cope with moderate impacts, and is fitted with ABS and keyless entry as standard.

Although the boot capacity is more than sufficient, the 60/40 asymmetric split-folding rear seats give the option of increasing the load space for larger items.
