Mitsubishi Outlander (2007 - 2013) 2.2 DI-D GX4 5d SST Owner Review

In their own words
Not owned the car for long but I can say that so far I'm really impressed by it.
The car looks great with a more aggressive design than the earlier pre-facelift models and the new model that followed it. Personally my favourite of the entire outlander history and the bodywork seems to be holding up very well to the punishment of time. The split tail gate is a fantastic feature, even if it's just because it makes me feel like I've got something a little more agriculture than it actual is, and it makes for easy loading of the dog and shopping.
The trim level of the GX4 is of a very decent standard and each of the added extras definitely add to the enjoyability of the vehicle. Heated leather seats, large electric sunroof and Rockford Fosgate speakers all add to the driving experience while electric wing mirrors, reversing camera and auto lights/wipers all make for a safer vehicle. The satnav is unsurprisingly pretty useless but that's the same with every manufacturer satnav older than a few years old. The stereo does connect to my phone via Bluetooth and works with Spotify or DAB radio which is brilliant.
Mechanically the older PSA engine in the auto is a little less refined than the MIVEC, but they're pretty much bullet proof and used in a host of other cars so any repairs should be cheaper. The auto SST box is a great addition, and well worth choosing the PSA over the MIVEC, as it's in a different league to the autos of old and makes for an effortless driving experience. The diffs and gearbox oil need keeping on top of but sticking to the service intervals should ensure for a very reliable car.
Driving position is great with a slightly higher view of the road, and I find the car a decent size without being awkward or too big. The feel of it is more like an estate than a truck like off roader. The only thing I would ask for from it is slightly less power steering with a bit more of a connection between the wheels and steering wheel. It can feel a little too floaty and disconnected at times but it's a big car so not surprising and that's me being very critical.
All in all I really like it. It's not anywhere near as exciting on paper as other vehicles I've owned, it's my first auto and diesel, but I really really enjoy it. It shouldn't really put a smile on my face but it does. More than I could have asked for when I was settling on a practical multi purpose vehicle.
How reliable do you find the car?
Not owned the car for long, but going from the first inspection by a member of my family who is a mechanic and all looks good. As long as it's been serviced regularly with key areas looked after (cambelt, diff oil, gearbox oil, engine oil etc) then they should go on and on.Does the car do everything you expected it to do?
Very versatile vehicle with so much to offer. Soft off road capabilities with the 4X4 but without the harsh truck like feel and finish of a true workhorse. Can seat up to 7 if necessary but without being as long as an oil tanker. Comfortable long distance motorway machine but equally happy on country lanes. Does everything that a family estate would plus a bit more with no obvious downside.About their car
