• Summary

    2 out of 5 2.0

What does this car say about you?

I need a lot of load space, but I'm not particularly interested in a premium brand.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Would you buy this car again and why?

No. Too temperamental. Dealer charges too costly. Also, Mitsubishi don't seem to be as good on fuel economy or emissions as other manufacturers, even with the new 2014 Outlander model.

What are you likely to buy next?

Ford - Cheap to buy nearly-new, cheap to run/service, recent diesel engines very fuel efficient whilst still providing reasonable performance.

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchised

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £16,000

When did you buy the car?

    September 2011

Did you get a good deal and why?

Ok. I tried to haggle but only managed to get a few hundred knocked off the sticker price.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

    What was the dealer like?

£66 just to attach the diagnostic tool and tell me that I need to buy an expensive new part. Come on Mitsubishi, the diagnostic should be free...!!!

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

I enjoy the ride, although I do hesitate to thrash the engine, given the temperamental turbo over boost problem I described earlier.

    What's it like to park?

Easy. The diamond model comes with rear camera and sensors as standard.

Have you had any problems with the car?

Every so often the engine goes into "limp home" mode, restricting itself to 2000rpm. The error code usually indicates a turbo over boost condition, but I've learned to ignore it and the engine management warning light resets itself after a few restarts. The garage can't find anything wrong with the turbo or waste gate. Also, after 62,000 miles the abs/sac ECU and pump failed (a common fault with the Teves MK60 unit). My dealer wanted to charge me £1,500 to fit a replacement, and had 7 in stock. I decided to take it to my local garage who sent the unit off to www.ecu-repairs.com. They were able to fix the unit, which ended up costing me £380 all-in.

What's most practical about your car?

The load-space. I need to transport a band P.A. system (including mixing desk, speakers, lights, stands, cables and other assorted items). The split tailgate and fold-forward rear seats, male this quite straightforward.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

The built-in Rockford Fosgate music system.
