Nissan 200 SX 1.8 Executive 3d (1991/H) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Excellent value. If only to see people's bottom jaw hit the floor as it goes sideways.
Costs
Costs have yet to exceed expectations. You can't have fun with a 140mph car on peanuts!

On the road
Driving
Has light but good feel - you can tell where you are pointing, even when sideways. Yaw angle can be varied without drama. Needs better brakes and lights.
Performance
Banzai! Ballistic projectile.

Living with it
Reliability
Never fails to start or get there. Gives lots of early warning feedback when it seeks attention.
Image
Sleek and classic sports-style with super 'bubble' jet fighter cockpit glass work 5/5. Seems lacking to public and kids 'I never knew Nissan made a car like that' 0/5.
Comfort
Thick slab of cows hide on driver's seat goes very hard after 2 hours. Get complaints when I try to put 3 in the back! They used to fit 3 years ago. Big but shallow boot, suspension turrets and spare wheel intrude.

Security and Service
Security
Came with a good alarm, fitted by first owner.
Service
Dealer expensive. Helpful local Jap parts specialist, 5-10% off list and more on some items. DIY ok. Bought genuine factory manual for £30 (PDF file online for free) - makes Haynes manuals look like a joke.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Turbo joints lost nuts and bolts, blew gaskets £72. Turbo is on way out. Still makes 11psi boost, but has excessive end float.
Other
Pirelli P6000s cheaper than expected at out of town service station, about 2 years front, 18 months rear. Blew rear shocks on touch down £55, warped disks £250 all round, 4 new gaiters for shocks £100. So good I have 2!
