Economy
Value
Plenty of gismos, air con, cd, electric windows-mirrors-roof, trip computer, alloys etc.
Costs
Insurance is cheap, and it has a well mannered drink habit giving 35mpg in town and 40mpg + on a run. Push it hard and you'll still get 28mpg. Not bad for 1800 cc. Replacing the tyres will cost you £180 and up for a pair

On the road
Driving
Does what you expect when you expect it. Tonnes of rubber on the road given its 16 inch low profile tyres so you stcik to the black stuff and stop quicker than you expect
Performance
More than ample unless you have a serious addiction to speed.

Living with it
Reliability
No problems.
Image
A little different from other cars on the road. You could alternatively spend twice as much on an older model golf!
Comfort
Good, driver seat is highly adjustable and there is plenty of room all round giving it the feel of a bigger car. Suspension is firm so granny won't like it much!

Security and Service
Security
Still got it. Nats+Imobiliser equiped with deadlocks and toughened glass.
Service
(Wessex)Your not buying from Mercedes so don't expect the same service levels
