Nissan Ariya Nismo verdict

Should you buy one?

No. If you’re sold on the Ariya, a far cheaper front-wheel drive model with the big battery makes an awful lot more sense. No Ariya is fun to drive, so you might as well save a few quid and maximise your range. If you must have four-wheel drive, an E-4orce Evolve still has a better range than the Nismo, and we’d take its extra equipment over the additional power.

If performance is important to you, a Kia EV6 is barely any slower and a lot more fun to drive. If you just care about acceleration, a similarly expensive Tesla Model Y will wipe the floor with most similarly sized and priced rivals.

As it stands, the Ariya Nismo just isn’t fun enough to warrant the less comfortable ride and massive hit in range. Given the badge’s storied history with such greats as the Nissan GT-R Nismo, that’s a real shame.
