The Nismo’s essential structure and bodyshell is unchanged from the standard Juke, which was awarded five stars by safety body Euro NCAP when crash-tested in 2011.

It scored a respectable 87 per cent for adult occupant protection and 81 per cent for child occupant protection. As with the rest of the Juke range, the Nissan Juke Nismo safety kit includes six airbags and ISOFIX child seat mounting points for the rear seats. The Nismo also wears wider tyres than the regular Juke, supplying some extra grip to keep you on the straight and narrow.

Interior and boot space is unchanged from the standard Juke. Despite the short wheelbase, four adult occupants can fit in without difficulty and there’s no shortage of headroom, either. Bootspace is not the largest out there but it’s accommodating enough to manage a couple of suitcases and smaller bags.

As with many modern cars, the chunky windscreen pillars can make visibility difficult at junctions and through long, tightening corners. The high driving position means forward vision is otherwise very good, although it does feel a little at odds with a car that aims to be sporty and agile.
