Nissan Juke SUV (2010-2019) verdict
Should you buy a used Nissan Juke?
For plenty of buyers, practical considerations don’t really factor into the purchase of a Nissan Juke. It’s a compact crossover with eye-catching styling, and few such combinations can elicit such a reaction from the UK car-buying public. If you like how the Juke looks, you should get one – but choose carefully now the cars are getting older and need more work to keep in good order.
There’s a chance the Juke will be a future classic, and some journalists even credit it with the stratospheric rise in popularity for the compact SUV segment in Europe – much as its larger sibling the Qashqai affected mid-sized family crossovers. There’s no denying that it feels its age now.
As such, we’d only go for a Juke if it were the cheapest, lowest mileage and best condition of the cars under consideration. That’s not much of a caveat though, as used Jukes are plentiful and good value.
What we like about the Nissan Juke Mk1
It’s surprisingly good to drive, with impressive handling for this class of car. AWD models are sophisticated. The 1.6-litre petrol is robust and the diesel, if well maintained, is quite flexible and economical – but not particularly clean, so only the later models are ULEZ compliant.
What we don’t like
It might feel like a small Qashqai, but it’s really a tall Micra – it’s cramped, with a small boot and tight rear seats that feel claustrophobic and dark. The interior has not aged well and feels flimsy, and the 1.2-litre engine and CVT gearbox are notorious weak spots that keep garages in business and the trade from paying too much for a used Juke.
