Nissan Micra 1.0 S 3d (00) (2001/Y) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Well engineered, cheap and very reliable. Nissan parts can be expensive (especially air filter), but plenty of aftermarket suppliers available to reduce costs.
Costs
45mpg around town - cheap driving, minimal maintenance - no parts replaced in 3 years driving (except brake pads) but watch the depreciation. If you want a cheap car, nearly new to keep until it is worn out, this tough little car will last for eternity!

Driving
Easy to drive. Very nimble in town and really easy to park as you would expect for a small engined town car. Can cope with motorways better than you expect most 1.0 litre engines to. Car is much more refined and quieter than Ford Fiesta or Ka.
Performance
It's only a 1.0 litre engine, but if compared like with like it is impressive for its size - I've driven much worse 1.2 and even 1.3 litre cars.

Living with it
Reliability
Absolutely bulletproof engine. One complaint - price of Nissan branded Airfilters!
Image
Much better than the new Micra which looks like a constipated frog, and the model before the facelift which looked too much like Noddy's car (but was equally tough and reliable).
Comfort
Great if you are the driver and are no more than 5' 10" tall (same as me) but cramped if you are much bigger. Back seat passengers are surprisingly comfortable (once you get them in - only 2 doors). Better legroom for driver than equivalent 5 door.

Security and Service
Security
Nissan NATS system.
Service
Polite and friendly, even if you phone Nissan UK. Ask Garage to fit aftermarket parts - Nissan parts can cost.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
None. And being a Nissan I expect it to rust apart in 16 years time and the engine will still be running perfectly.
Other
Excellent car. I'm only changing because I need 4 doors.
